Every Living Soul--Lyrics

By DeeDee Laux

Verse Late one evening as I lay watching the news-- So much anger, separation, dividing me and you. Brother against brother and nation against nation Oh it’s crazy but it’s true, even religion divides us too.

I fell asleep with a sadness deep inside my soul. I was angry at the people who don’t think the way I do. Then a voice whispered to me, wipe away your tears. Oh it’s time to start anew. Can you hear me? I’m calling you.

Chorus I am Yahweh, I am Jesus, I am Buddha and Mohammed. I am Allah, I’m Jehovah, I am all of these and more. Oh can you see me when you pass me, when you think that I’m not there? Oh can you feel me? I’m everywhere.

Verse For a moment I lay still, soaking in the feeling Of the presence all around me singing in my ear. She said that we were all the same not one was treasured more. No matter who we were, who we loved or what religion we stood for.

I asked him why he spoke to me, well he said he speaks to all. Some won’t listen to his whispers, they’re afraid to hear her call. Oh he speaks to them in many ways and someday he’ll break through. Sometimes he speaks through me and sometimes she speaks through you.

Chorus I’m in the eyes of the children playing in the school yard, In the hearts of the soldiers fighting on both sides. I’m in the soul of the gay man walking down the street. Oh I’m in every living soul you meet.

Verse So maybe now someone is listening who’s not sure we’re all the same. You’ve forgotten where you came from but you’re tired of playing games. It’s not hard to open up your heart and listen to her voice. Oh he’s speaking to you now, will you listen? You make the choice.

Chorus I’m a Christian, I’m a Buddhist, I am Atheist, I’m Jewish, I am Muslim, I am Hindu, I am all of these and more. Oh can you see me when you pass me when you think that I’m not there? Oh can you feel me? I’m everywhere?

Chorus I’m in the eyes of the children playing in the school yard, In the hearts of the soldiers fighting on both sides. I’m in the soul of the gay man walking down the street. Oh I’m in every living soul you meet. Yes I’m in every living soul you meet.
